Shelters

Shelter projects begin with site information, applicable project requirements and technical design. The scope and responsibilities are agreed individually.

Purpose-designed shelters and protected rooms

A shelter is an engineered structure, not simply a reinforced basement. Its design depends on the intended threats, occupancy, duration of use, soil and groundwater, structural loads, available exits and the level of autonomous operation required.

PNV Construction Group can coordinate the architectural, structural and engineering parts of private shelters and protected rooms. Final solutions must be based on project documentation and the actual site, rather than on a standard wall thickness or a copied plan.

Information to prepare for the initial discussion

Describe the proposed location, the existing room or site, the number of users and the intended pattern of use. Include available plans, measurements and information about utility connections.

The brief should address access, accommodation, water, air exchange, power and communications. Structural solutions, equipment and protective performance must be established by the project for its specific conditions. Photographs of general construction work do not establish a shelter’s protective performance.
